It can be useful to have an extra pair of eyes checking over text, at any stage from manuscript to typesetting. This is something I perform for authors and publishers, covering everything from spelling and grammar, to fact checking, copyright and style.

SENIOR WRITER
STORYTERRACE
John Bevis is a Senior Writer with StoryTerrace. This connects those who would like their life story captured in book form, with an appropriate writer chosen from the StoryTerrace pool. Depending on the choice of package, the writer conducts a series of interviews with the storyteller, face-to-face or online. Usually the storyteller wants to wrap their whole life story within a biography, and often this is made as a gift from family members. But the service may equally be used as a way of putting into words a particular life-changing episode, often of a traumatic nature. Or else the storyteller may want to use the service for promotional purposes.
From the interviews, the writer drafts the text in chapter form, to be read by editor and proof reader before going back to the storyteller for checking and approval. The storyteller also selects an agreed number of photos, and liaises with the designer on cover and layout. The final stage is when the storyteller receives printed and hardbound copies of their book.

As a critical writer and editor, I have a catalogue of published work on subjects from bird song, nature, poetry, art, and artists’ books to life stories, true crime and cancer. I have edited and contributed essays to numerous exhibition catalogues, anthologies, and artists’ books.
Recent commissions include the introduction to a nature photography exhibition; the life story of an Afghan refugee; and the lyrics to a composition based on bird sounds.
